The Vespa and the Butterfly

From 18 July to 11 October 2015 the Piaggio Museum will host the exhibition named “ The Vespa and the Butterfly. A century of Butterfly at the Piaggio Museum ”. After a little more than 100 years from its first performance in 1904, this exhibition celebrates one of Giacomo Puccini’s best beloved operas, and it is above all the expression of a determination to “network” a series of excellent bodies in Tuscany (and further afield) with the Piaggio Museum in Pontedera, temple of another undisputed icon of Made in Italy: the Vespa. On show an elegant selection of stage costumes, sketches, and set designs from the archives and collections of the prestigious partners of the Piaggio Foundation, that retrace one century of performances of the Madama Butterfly on a symbolic red carpet.

THE SOUL OF WOOD, THE DELICATENESS OF FABRIC AND THE MAJESTY OF MARBLE

The hands of each artisan inject life into the project.
They study the deep-rooted secrets of wood:
from the observation of the tree to the study of its grains, reflections and chromatic effect.
Then come our highly-skilled upholsterers who work with the softness of the silk, the richness of damasks and warmth of the leather.
Finally, the marble masons:
we are a stone’s throw from the marble quarries chosen by Michelangelo for his masterpieces.
It is right here that our masons carve into blocks of marble to reveal what is already present in nature.
Attention is paid

IT’S IN THE GENES OF HIGHLY-SKILLED ARTISANS WHO FOR GENERATIONS
HAVE CRAFTED IN THE PISA AREA

Knowing how to work a material means shaping, gently forging and polishing it with expert hands, managing to transform the vision conceived by the designers into reality.
This is how our interiors are created thanks to the mastery of highly-skilled artisans inspired by age-old traditions and a unique professional culture, one of a land in which sailing is intertwined with our roots.
